Guest Speaker: Mark Scott
Originally appointed Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation for a five-year term from July 5, 2006, Mark has recently accepted a second term extension for a further five years from July 2011.
Under his leadership, the ABC has dramatically expanded its services and its reach, with an annual budget approaching $1 billion. Operating on the principle that media organisations must adapt or die in an era of massive , technological change, Mr Scott has transformed the structure and operation of the ABC.
The Managing Director has championed the shift inside the ABC from a process-based culture to one that emphasises the values of Respect, Integrity, Collegiality and Innovation.
Mark Scott was named Media Person of the Year in 2008 and made the Financial Review respected “Power” list in 2009. In 2009, he also garnered international attention with a series of agenda-setting speeches including the Latrobe University Annual Media Lecture, the A.N. Smith Memorial Lecture, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association Lecture and Macquarie University’s Bruce Allen Lecture.
Before joining the ABC, Mr Scott served 12 years in a variety of editorial and executive positions with Fairfax Media, Editorial Director of the Fairfax newspaper and magazine division and Editor-in-Chief of Metropolitan, Regional and Community newspapers.
Mark Scott holds a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Education, and Master of Arts from the University of Sydney and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Harvard University.
